Children of a catastrophically injured or critically ill service member must handle challenges and adversities that someone their age should not have to face alone. It is vital that these children have peer support from those who understand their unique circumstances. Semper Fi Fund Kids’ Camp, created and administered by the non-profit Semper Fi Fund, offers support, confidence, and the tools for a successful life to these very special children. A key component to the camp is the mentor program which pairs each camper with a high school mentor. As the child of a military family, each mentor understands the unique needs of the program participants and makes a commitment to stay in touch with their camper throughout the coming school year. In 2013, the TC Open Charitable Foundation worked with the Semper Fi Fund to bring 62 campers and 62 mentors to Pennsylvania to participate in this week-long, life-changing experience.
